Back-To-Back by Sally James

I can imagine them now

those old young men

coarse red faces flat caps

loose trousers with strong belts

leaning on their shovels

strong tea in tin cupped hand

dusty fingers ready

to lay bricks for workers

two up two down built

in the shadow of a mill

the shudder of the weaving shed

their noisy neighbour.
