Once Bitten by Sally James
She slumbers in her cocoon of warmth
bathes in the cool waters of serenity
notices a brighter shade outside
as if the sun had kissed the earth.
A green and pleasant land beckons.
She tastes the fruit, sweet at first bite
her lips moisten, whets her appetite.
Her longing increases as time ticks
new seconds away, never ending,
She grazes till the sun goes down
and the earth is no longer green
returns once more dust to sacred dust.
