Lifelong Foe by Nathan Williams

>From the corner
of some room
It comes/glides/
brings with a rattle
tremors to the heart
rate of mortals
shivers to the dead
hangs like butchered
swine bled dry
suggestions of smoke
from hollowed eyes spiral
thru worms flicks
no tongue jaw crooked
jowl set or cast
merciless

I greet It with
disdain and check
my wristwatch still
alive

My lifelong foe
nowhere
to be seen
