No Kingdom Lost by Nathan Williams

Splitting Eden at the horizon
we saw blood spilt blot
scattered ashes on a canvas
once pure
and called it sky

Yet no kingdom lost

For thine is the mercy
spared not for the meek

Left amongst dogs and war horses
we walked broken glass sparse
left on hollowing roads
like euthanised stars

From the east
came tremors
only a heart
could conduct

Shallow graves and cracked tombs
forgotten by winters buried
spell blank headstones
worn to the bone by time

There are
no second chances
whisper skeleton leaves
fragile across baron stage

Shall we?

Dare we
go forth
again?

Not here
