Joker by Tony Kinsella

It was always on the cards

Me – your king

You – the queen of my heart

Draped in diamonds.

That was the deal.

But

I didn’t make the cut

I didn’t suit your style

You barred me from your club

Trumped me and sent me packing

Called a spade a spade

And gave me jack.

You flushed me royally

And I shuffled away

Drowned my sorrows in gin and rum

Jumped off that bridge when we came to it

Leapt from the deck

With no pontoon to halt my plunge

Poker face?

Chance would’ve been a fine thing

You stick and twist the knife

Into the last Joker
